Overview
A high plateau of grassland and cloud forest, with a loop walk to the dramatic cliff known as World's End.
Horton Plains National Park lies at over 2,000 metres, part of the Central Highlands World Heritage Site. A loop trail of roughly 9–10 km crosses grassland and forest to World's End, where the escarpment drops hundreds of metres, and Baker's Falls.
It is one of the best places on the island for endemic birds and for sambar deer grazing in the early light.
Highlights
- The view from World's End on a clear morning
- Baker's Falls and the cloud forest
- Sambar deer and highland birds
Practical travel notes
- Arrive early: mist usually covers the view by mid-morning. This means leaving Nuwara Eliya or Haputale before dawn.
- Bring warm layers and rain protection. The loop takes about 3 hours at a comfortable pace.
- Single-use plastic is restricted in the park; bags may be checked at the entrance.
Season
Clearest from January to March. Rain and mist are common the rest of the year.
